World Cup 2006

Tuesday, April 11, 2006

It gets worse

So, Alex 'out of Blur' James and his tiresome Fat Les pals are rumoured to doing a World Cup song.

And now this...

"Punk singer Jimmy Pursey, formerly of Sham 69, is to record an alternative England World Cup song.

Hurry Up England, a reworking of his band's 1978 hit Hurry Up Harry, was chosen by Virgin Radio listeners as the station's rival to the official song."

Catflaps, indeed.

Anyway, do keep me informed about the Song for the Socceroos show.

"WE'RE THE ENGLAND" got a rapturous reception at London's 100 Club as part of the 30th Anniversary celebrations of the birth of Punk Rock.
SEX PISTOLS WEBSITE: Just been listening to 'We're The England' this morning. "In Berlin, we're gonna win". I like it!

HISTORY: Just in case you don't know SPIZZENERGI's guitar driven, fizzy, punk, Sci-Fi classic 'Where's Captain Kirk?' was given the status Single Of The Week by music weekly Melody Maker and became the 1st number one of the official Indie chart launched in January 1980, where it stayed for 8 weeks. It also remained in the Indie top 30 for the entire year and was considered by BBC DJ John Peel to be the best Star Trek associated song. Stadium rockers R.E.M. liked 'Where's Captain Kirk?' so much they recorded a version of it to give away to their fan club members as a Xmas gift in 1992.
