World Cup 2006

Saturday, June 11, 2005

Yes I know, "Qantas Socceroos", it's all a bit Play School here sometimes. We've got the Melbourne Kangaroos in AFL, the Kookaburra's (I think they're some sort of hockey team) the Sharks, Panthers, etc. One of the local NRL teams is called the Parramatta Eels. I mean, come on, eels? What's an eel got to do with Rugby?

Anyway, most people want to change the name of the International (soccer) football team to the controversial "Australia". I mean, shock horror, fancy calling your national team by the name of the country that it represents. Surely not?

Not long until we're in the realms of the Australian Qantas Socceroos v The England NatWest Bank Lion Cubs under 21's final sponsored by Diet Coke Lime.

More news (what am I, the BBC?)... The "Qantas Socceroos" (please explain) beat New Zealand 1-0 at Craven Cottage, last night. It seems to be a warm-up for the Confederations Cup, whatever that is.

Here's some news for you. Japan beat North Korea 2-0 to become the first nation (after Germany) to qualify for the World Cup.

Meanwhile, the Women's European Championship is on telly. It's something, esp since I have banned myself from watching Big Brother.
